Prepping for Estival Solstice

Prepping for Estival Solstice

Feast days and festivals are always opportunities to ground, gather and observe. Not least if the wider world is encouraging speed, spends and superficiality cultivating a yin healing circle can be a powerful protection of our deepest selves.

Summer, with its pleasures and distractions offers us the bounty of nature and the chance to round and ripen, to loll and find our leisure. We can soften as we stop, lean into care rather than control and actively conserve each other’s solitude and softness. To mark activities of the moon, the wheel of the year as it turns, and the elemental shifts within the TCM tradition requires active presence. The Divine Feminine is rooted in lunar and seasonal traditions of all kinds. Yin is noticing, decelerating and making the links and connections “as above so below”.

What to expect:

2 hours of Slow hold Yin shapes, Ambient music and some storytime.

Present Movement

Present Movement

‘Explore what it truly means to connect to your present moment experience through the body in this newly designed workshop by Jamie Rowland.’

Do you find your mind noisy and distracting in your day-to-day life? Do you find it difficult to sit down and meditate, or even to focus on any particular task? Do you feel your mind overly concerned about what you look like and what others are thinking of you during your Yoga practice? If so, then this workshop is for you!

This workshop is designed to show you that you do not need to be sat down in silence to be meditating and find space from the mind. For Jamie, meditation is simply a state of alert observation of the Life that we are in all the many ways it expresses itself, including when we are moving the body. Present Movement understands that internal stillness is there to be felt and experienced in any activity if we are able to cultivate the quality of attention necessary to notice it, and that is what we will be exploring in this workshop.

Expect to playfully move the body in a variety of ways, exploring things like:

  • Present interaction with objects through tactile exploration and mind-body coordination

  • Conscious moving around the space eg. exploring various forms of present walking

  • Circular/Spiral and Wavelike movement forms and theory surrounding them

  • Shaking and body tapping practices

  • Humming/vibration of the vocal chords

Also expect space towards the end of the workshop for relaxation and a shift in focus from movement towards more quieter and introspective practice. We will arrive in various Yin Yoga shapes to observe the subtle movements and messages from within the body, and ultimately land in a final relaxation.

This workshop is designed to be playful, fun and interactive as well as deeply introspective and connective. Present Movement is for everyone, and no prior experience of Yoga (or anything else for that matter) is required for this workshop.

Journey to Spiltz

Let’s be honest—splits can look a bit terrifying. But this workshop isn’t about forcing yourself into some extreme pose for the ‘gram. It’s about the journey (and all the wobbly, wonderful steps along the way).

Join Ellie and Anna for a playful, supportive workshop that will help you open up the hips, hamstrings, and heart—with a big dose of patience, laughter, and zero pressure to be “there” yet. Whether you’re miles off the floor or nearly there, this is for you.

Expect creative flows, deep stretches, and clever prep work that supports your body where it is right now. No pain, no pushing—just mindful movement, smart technique, and a few giggles when we inevitably fall over.

You might not leave in full hanumanasana (that’s the fancy name), but you will leave feeling stronger, more open, and pretty damn proud of yourself.

Come journey with us. We’ll take it one bendy breath at a time.

Yang to Yin

Yang to Yin

Experience the power of both Yang and Yin in this two hour practice that will move us through a strong Vinyasa before settling into stillness.

Beginning with Vinyasa, we’ll use the strength of both asana and pranayama to help balance out our energy - allowing us to drop into the practice of Yin.

During the Yin portion expect to hold (mostly seated) postures for anywhere between two and ten minutes. These long holds encourage a release through the connective tissue of the body as well as offering a release for the mind.

Here we’ll find discipline and strength in stillness to help facilitate a deeper, more meditative experience.

Water Mandala Masterclass

The intention of the Mandala Vinyasa practice is to honour the creative energy in all of its manifestations, using the spiral patterns that nature uses to shape and create the material and energetically substances into our bodies. Opening us into a deeper introspection as we move 360 degrees around the mat.

The practice also considers the presence of the elements; we will become water when we need to become soft and fluid. In this water masterclass we will tap into our feeling state, physically we explore inner thigh and groin.  Energetically we will be activating Svadhisthana, the Sacral Chakra, our source of movement, creativity and emotions.

The workshop will include Pranayama (breath techniques) and a dynamic Vinyasa flow; sandwiched between Yin poses (at the start and beginning of practice).

Our workshop will be divided into 2 halves. The first focussing on the foundations, what a handstand actually is with some specific conditioning and how/when to use the wall.

Then after a good 15min coffee (and wrist) break we’ll kick things up a gear with a free standing entry and spotting practice wherein you’ll work in alternating pairs at a higher tempo through a designed practice routine, which really boosted my practice, and followed with some endurance.

Shake to Still - A Yin Journey

Shake to Still - A Yin Journey

The balance between movement and stillness is an edge we come back to so often in our yoga practice. While the long hold form of yin allows unprecedented opening and access to our hidden depths sometimes real stillness can be accessed through specific shaking and moving - shaking off conditioning, strictures and physical patterns

This new class invites participants to awaken their kundalini and shaky energies - to shake them off - and then to settle and release.

Using the breath as a tool, some chant and song you can expect laughter, energetic release and ultimately deep rest. The body knows what it needs to process and these practices, rooted in the new science of somatic and deep fascial release and bodywork will help you have a spring in your step as we awaken towards spring. Breathe out the stale. Expel that which no longer serves you and energise your whole system with a somatic spring clean

Rocket Masterclass with Anna Favager

Rocket Yoga was founded by Larry Schultz who was a student of Pattabhi Jois'. Larry took the Ashtanga Primary series and made some of the more challenging postures more accessible for students. Larry came up with "The Rocket" practice which is playful and energizing and accessible for all - it's an amazing, uplifting practice where "everyone gets to do what they want".

Join Anna for this two hour masterclass, she will take the sequence of Rocket 1 and break down some of the more challenging postures and transitions. Using some of Larry's "rebel yoga" energy to have fun, play with arm balances, inversions and transitions and explore the practice as a whole.

The workshop is suitable for everyone, we will use the session to build the foundations of the practice - thinking of it as a place to learn to ground before learning to fly! The emphasis will be on cultivating ujjayi breath, strength building, increasing flexibility, bandhas and building confidence in your practice.

We open with Pranayama then move through sun salutations then the standing and seated sequences which include inversions (optional) and backbends - we will look at how to advance and how to modify the practice for different bodies.

The session will close with a restorative Nidra practice to ground.

Chakra Charya Workshop

A chakra is a spinning wheel of energy at various focal points in the body, used to manage the flow of prana (life-force), focus the mind in asana, in meditation, and when repeating mantras. Some yoga traditions list five chakras, while others list six, seven, or more, suggesting that the chakras are symbolic rather than literal energetic vortexes.

In this fascinating workshop Arun will guide you through the Chakra Charya, a flowing sequence of asana he has developed over 25 years of teaching. Each of the seven asana corresponds with one of seven chakras and is coupled with its own unique hand mudra and mantra designed to energetically align and balance the body-mind connection, and promote a deep meditative state.

What To Expect

Comprehensive breakdown of the Chakra Charya asana sequence and variations.

Identification and balance of the seven main chakras, application of matching hand mudras and mantras.

Learn the art of self-practice through memorisation of the seven posture vinyasa sequence.

Festive Yin & Chill

Festive Yin & Chill

This workshop is a mini-retreat just before christmas week.  Behind the victoriana image of a loaded christmas table groaning with sugary treats and a festive smiling family there is an army of frazzled and strained women and caregivers with a to-do list even longer than Santa's.   Add in pressures to sparkle at christmas drinks, the emotional labour of making memories and rushing from panto to carol service to relatives and back this time of year can shred the final nerve of the stressed and stretched.

2 hours of a yin and chill offers space to reflect and hibernate, guided through active but relaxing shapes and poses, and offers a haven for top-tier self care before the main week of rushing and forced jollity gets serious. It may be that you love everything about this time of year and want to deepen this feeling with guided meditation and relaxation considering the natural cues of the deep midwinter. Or you just love the change in pace of a long yin class.

expect: usual slow paced ambient music and poetry of Nic's yin seasons, strong, slow hold yin, festive treats to soothe and nourish not spike your sensitive tummy, and all the goodwill and community you could ever need.
